Abstract :
A new on chip magnetic device was designed, fabricated and tested. This system enables precise contactless arrangement, arraying and trapping of diamagnetic microbeads. The device is composed of holes matrix throughout thick CoPt magnetic layers electroplated on silicon wafer. The device was experienced with diamagnetic polystyrene-latex beads of mean diameter 3 urn in a paramagnetic buffered solution. Using this system, diamagnetic micron-sized beads were successfully controlled and trapped in spatial stable levitation within magnetic wells. Contactless passive levitation brings amazing possibilities to bio-chips. Compared with existing approaches, it allows precise passive contactless arraying of microbeads or unlabelled cells and enables contamination-free biochemical micro-reactors
