Abstract
We have found that the sensitivity of measuring time multiplexed fibre Bragg grating (FBG) sensors can be improved by amplifying the signal returning from the sensors. This can be used to either improve the system performance or reduce the power, and hence the cost of the optical source. In our experiments, we find that the addition of the amplifier would allow a reduction of >120 times in the source power
