Abstract :
The magnetic field distributions of a 300 MW generator under various operating conditions are obtained based on finite element method. Through analysis we find that the exciting leakage field is highly saturated when the machine is heavy loaded. Based on these study, new saturable parameters and model are developed. The small and large disturbance data are simulated by a time-stepping finite element model of a synchronous generator connected to infinite bus via a transformer with delta-star wiring. The data provided by the simulation are used to estimate the linear and saturable parameters. Since the disturbance data is not easily obtained online especially for heavy loaded conditions, FEM based simulation offers a new approach to solve this problem
