Abstract :
The design of a broadband high efficiency class-E power amplifier for use in wireless communication systems is presented. A low cost PHEMT device is employed to enhance both efficiency and bandwidth performance. The design has been investigated theoretically and experimentally and simulated using the harmonic balance method in an advance design system (ADS). A peak PAE of 72.1% is achieved at 1.95 GHz with transducer power gain of 10.8 dB in the improved design, together with a resulting bandwidth of 35% (1.52 GHz to 2.16 GHz). Simulation and practical results confirm the validity of these approaches.
