Abstract :
Beam scanning in proton radiotherapy facilities imposes stringent requirements on the accelerator and beam transport system performance. The authors report on a study of the interrelationship between the beam quality presented to the scanning system and the quality of the dose delivered to the desired target volume. The constraints on the accelerator are quantitatively specified so the clinical specifications are met
