Abstract :
The presentation will consider the motivations for the development of remote sensing techniques and systems for operation from aircraft and satellites and survey the various classes of passive and active microwave remote sensing instruments, microwave remote sensing instruments, their inherent capabilities, the technical requirements for systems and components, the state of the art, problem areas, including those related to the handling and processing of large data quantities, the development trends, and, last but not least, the fundamental problem of user-oriented low ambiguity interpretation of measured data.
