Abstract :
A digital radio equipment operating at frequencies around 19 GHz is described. Designed for field trial applications it can be used in a variety of configurations, allowing trials of multichannel telecommunications systems and mobile or fixed, digitally encoded television outside broadcast links. Microwave integrated circuits are used extensively throughout the r.f. and i.f. sections of the equipment allowing the realisation of compact, easily handled modules. The equipment transmits 1 or 2 binary data streams, each having data rates up to 154 Mbit/s. Hop lengths up to 5 or 10 km are achievable, depending on the grade of service required.
