Abstract :
Beyond 3G and 4G wireless networks promise to deliver always best connected service. Load sharing between radio access networks (RANs) using vertical handovers can help to improve performance and thus service. This research compares first-come-first-serve overflow algorithms, which are inherently fair when different RANs vary in cost or in service quality. Load shared services include speech and queued packet data, as could exist on cellular and/or WLAN networks. We compare two queuing algorithms for packet data, one of which ensures constrained response times. Simulation results are validated by Markov chain model.
