Abstract
Passive mapping of the environment by detection of natural radiation of objects is possible in the microwave region in the same way as for the visible and infrared part of the electromagnetic spectrum. Because of the minor weather sensitivity and the significantly different radiation behavior of most media in this part of the spectrum by means of which further informations can be obtained, microwave radiometry has gained great interest for civil and military remote sensing applications.
