Abstract
A word generator concept based upon the SSL-principle (Series-gate Sampling Line) has been found to provide the highest bit rate in pseudo-random and programmable word generation so far experimentally attained. Computer optimized SSL-word generators operating at 1.25 and 10 Gbit/s are described. The high-bit-rate part of this word generation is a rugged and simple construction requiring neither exotic components nor new technologies. Experimental results up to 10 Gbit/s and computer simulated results up to 20 Gbit/s demonstrate the exellent performance of this concept in order to provide test signals for gigabit electronics.
