A High-Capacity Satellite Utilizing Fixed and Scanning Spot Antenna Beams

Abstract :
We discuss one possible implementation of a satellite which has the advantage of providing high EIRP, high capacity and universal service. The approach employs Satellite Switched Time Division Multiple Access (TDMA) where one of the spotbeams is a scanning beam. The transponder for this satellite is an integration of a phased array, microwave amplifiers and phase shifters and a control system, all of which are discussed in detail following an overview of the system concept.
