Abstract
In different parts of the world asset management (AM) is applied in the water industry. The drivers to start using AM were very diverse and this resulted in a big range of definitions of AM and different frameworks. In this paper a first attempt by the author is made to make an overview of the different initiatives, the drivers behind them and the frameworks around the world. The paper ends highlighting the strong points of some of the initiatives and includes some remarks and recommendations for the water industry in the Netherlands.
