Abstract :
Experiments have been carried out to characterize the pulse corona occurring in a wire-cylinder geometry and to assess the influence on corona current and pulse energy of the electrode geometry and voltage waveform. The authors describe the experimental setup and report the results obtained. Initial results show that the pulse corona energy density mainly depends on the average electric field and decreases when the tail of the voltage pulse increases. The peak current and the equivalent corona discharge resistance are almost uninfluenced by wire diameter, whereas they are influenced both by the diameter of the cylinder and by the voltage pulse shape.<>
