Abstract :
This paper describes the design of a component based product design management system for manufacturing industry. The product design management system is aimed at assuring reconfigurability and maintainability by utilizing a distributed architecture on Java EE platform. The product design management system is built on a three tiers Java EE architecture. The first is the interface tier implemented as web components, which is used to access the system through a web browser, and the desktop application used by users to use the system directly. The second tier is the business logic tie implemented as Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB) components to handle the core PDM business functionality. The third tier is the data management, composed of a database and vault for the physical files. The product design management system is developed by a component-based development (CBD) approach, and it implemented and illustrated with an examples.
