Design of voice reminder system for intelligent transportation based on Wireless Sensor Network

This paper introduces a real-time traffic lights status reminder system based on Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) technology for Intelligent Transport System (ITS). Different from the traditional systems which are mainly concerned about information collection of traffic flow, speed of vehicles, etc., the system introduced in this paper aims to reduce the phenomenon of red light running by providing the traffic lights status for drivers. The system consists of transmit units fixed on the traffic lights and vehicle units integrated in the navigators. The traffic lights status collected by the transmission units will be transmitted via ZigBee networks to the vehicle units where the data is processed and broadcast to drivers by voice.
