Abstract
The author describes a method of constructing Lyapunov functions for systems that satisfy certain assumptions on their structure. He introduces the term quasigradient to identify systems which have the desired structure, and shows by several examples that many existing power system models used for Lyapunov analysis do possess the quasigradient structure. An algorithm for ascertaining whether a system possesses quasigradient structure is described. The use of the proposed method to construct Lyapunov functions in power system models having additional control dynamics is discussed
