Abstract :
A tutorial introduction to six-port measurement techniques is attempted. For simplicity, the general network analyser using a dual six-port system is excluded; a single six-port used as a reflectometer represents the scope of this paper. Emphasis is on basic concepts rather than practical details. It is shown, however, that a high degree of accuracy can be achieved in practice. Some aspects of the design of a six-port measuring system are described, and some outstanding problems are indicated.
