Abstract :
This paper treats the problem of approximating an nth order system by a system of order k(k<n). The powerful search technique of genetic algorithm is used for this purpose and the aim of the optimization algorithm is to minimize the weighted Hankel norm between the main system and the reduced one. Unlike the other methods that use the genetic algorithm, the main feature of the method is that it can be applied to all systems and there is no restriction that the system should be strictly proper or stable. The other feature is that it is applicable to both continuous and discrete-time systems. The proposed method is used to reduce the order of a sample power system
