Abstract :
For over twenty years the author has been occupied with the translation of music into sets of visual languages. A continuing evolution of language systems was needed in order to express the growing number of sound situations created by composers in the 20th Century. The later part of that century demanded a flexible expansion of parameters because of increasingly complex patterns which were being composed in music. It was natural to move from two dimensions into three because of the exponential increase in the number of systems available for possible manipulation while translating the different structural elements within a musical performance. The author gives a description of the algorithmic, music visualization system she developed outside of cyberspace. She then describes the transformation of this system into a virtual reality 3D immersive world utilizing supercomputing technology. She also describes the two current projects in the Color Organ, Clarence Barlow\´s "Im Januar am Nil" and a GridJam on the AccessGrid with musical/jam structure by Alvin Curran
