Abstract :
Observed electromagnetic wave depolarization in forward propagation due to precipitation in a short-term period tends to distribute statistically about a mean level. Using a special Rayleigh depolarization model, we have analyzed the statistical scatter of the cross-polarization discrimination (XPD) of the received signal, and found an approximate normal model with a standard deviation of approximately 4.34 about the mean, independent of all the parameters of the radio link.
