Abstract
In this paper, a method of evaluating color characteristic of monitors is proposed. A Sony CRT Monitor and an HP LCD Monitor are taken as experimental objects. A series of color patches in RGB mode are first designed to analysis the color characteristic difference between the two monitors. An experiment is done to capture the gamut of the two monitors by measuring the Lab values of the designed color patches displayed on the monitors with spectrophotometer. The color characteristic difference between two monitors is then discussed with the gamut plotted with the measured values. After that, an experiment for evaluating the effect of red, green and blue channel on color tristimulus value is carried out according to the additive color mixing principle that the tristimulus of one mixed color equal to the sum of tristimulus of each component color. The result of the experiment shows that the difference between calculated value and the measured value increases with color lightness. It is also indicated that red channel has the greatest impact on color rendering accuracy.
