Abstract :
This paper study usage of simulation models and simulation software in development of industrial manufacturing system consist of series of discrete production process linked via the Manufacturing Execution System (MES), described as Discrete Event System (DES). This paper proposed a systematic method or steps to develop simulation model for MES that can be tested during development and used for training without having to rely on the real production process by using DES modeling technique, which describes system response in occurrence of event possibly required to meet certain condition. This paper also addressed the model development technique for DES by using Statechart modeling approach that contain modularity in program to reduce programming burden and model complexity, using NI LabVIEW software platform. The paper illustrate a real industrial painting process consist of MES, AGV and process box (PB) as an example to elaborate the concept of modeling and simulation throughout this paper.
