Abstract :
Changes detection is a method use in remote sensing technique in monitoring and managing the natural resources such as vegetation and the urban development. It can provides the researcher with the quantitative analysis of spatial distribution in the area of interest. This method can be used to determine the changes that occur in a particular area at different periods of time. In this study, SPOT satellite images from three different 1996, 2002 and 2006 were used to evaluate the mangrove forest area changes along Klang coastal area. These changes may affect the management and policy in decision making. Unsupervised and supervised classification was used in producing the land use map for each year. The technique of Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) also used in this research study. NDVI is used to highlight the area which may contain large amount of green vegetation which is in poor, moderate or good condition according to the range value obtained.
