Abstract :
This paper describes the use of hybrid-open microstrip technology to produce components capable of operating over the frequency range 40 to 110GHz. Harmonic mixers for millimetric standards and instrumentation use are described together with broadband balanced mixers. It is shown that balanced mixers can be produced having a SSB noise figure of less than 9.5dB over a 20% bandwidth. The design and packaging features are also described which indicate the construction capability to meet the requirements of military systems.
