Abstract :
The purpose of this paper is to identify and discuss requirements for SCADA systems for large wind farms in the new deregulated electric utility industry. Significant penetration of wind power in the existing energy systems will have a large influence on the operation and control of the transmission grid to which the wind parks are connected. Large on- or offshore wind farms are expected to interact with the power systems to some extent similar to a large conventional power plant (IPP). As more and larger wind farms are connected to the electricity grid, there will be a need to develop standardized protocols for communication and interface between the wind power plants and the other system operating entities, e.g. ISO or TSO and power markets.
