Abstract :
Considering lack of comparative studies on Ping-pong movement, comprehensive evaluations were carried out to estimate the impact of layer-3 handoff latency on End-to-End TCP for mobile IPv6 and its extensions. Results show that FHMIPv6, which has 273ms overall handoff delay, 93.867 Kbytes/s average goodput and 9.125% packet loss rate, performs better than HMIPv6 and FMIPv6 frameworks under Ping-pong movement. The worst is MIPv6 suffering from 18.852% packet loss rate and performance degradation of 817ms overall handoff delay and 83.820 Kbytes/s average goodput. Furthermore, we proposed a new scheme called optimized FHMIPv6, which implements the MN´s fast and seamless handoff. Experiments indicate that the overall handoff delay of the optimized FHMIPv6 is only 100ms, and its average goodput and packet loss rate are 101.574 Kbytes/s and 1.664% respectively, compared with FHMIPv6, the new scheme can further reduce the layer-3 handoff latency and eliminate the possibility of packets loss as well as improve the whole throughput and goodput.
