Abstract :
This paper presents optimal transmission systems reinforcements in the existing lines considering (n-1) criterion for transmission outages. The proposed reinforcement minimizes the total investments costs and ensures a viable operation of the system under contingencies. The formulation includes, in an Optimal Active Power Flow (OAPF), the relationship between the inductive susceptance and transmission line capacity. The proposed approach is solved in two steps using Benders decomposition to reduce the problem dimension, one step produces the Security Constraints (SC) and the other allocates the reinforcements considering these SC. The IEEE 14 bus and IEEE 118 test systems are used to show the main concepts handled in this paper.
