Abstract :
The determination of energy absorption in subjects exposed to transient electromagnetic fields is important to evaluate the possible biological effects and to quantify the exposure limits. This work analyses a model that permits to determine with good precision the field absorbed in subjects exposed to transient incident fields. In particular, Gaussian impulsive fields are considered and the transfer of energy between the incident field and the absorbed field in the tissue is determined. The characteristics of the absorbed field are related to possible non-thermal biological effects as, for example, the excitation of voltage spikes on the excitable cellular membranes.
