Abstract :
A robust design of a TCSC damping controller is proposed that uses local measurements, either voltage magnitude or tie-line power. Identification of the most effective signal for a wide range of operating conditions is performed using residues. It shows that tie-line power is a better choice. This signal is used to improve the damping of inter-area oscillations. Nonlinear simulation results of a benchmark two-area system illustrate the proposed methodology.
