Abstract
A description is given of a 16-QAM modem for 140-Mbit/s radio-relay systems which requires no differential encoding because a reference phase is marked in the modulator. A fully automatic computer-controlled measuring system in connection with a fading simulator allowed the bit error rate to be measured as a function of the signal-to-noise ratio. This was done in the presence of random fading for different variance values.
