  • Abstract
The remote images of moving ship include bloomy wake and decaying wake, the latter has low contrast between background, therefore, the traditional methods for strong ship wakes canpsilat work well on them. Based on the principle of region analysis, this paper proposed a detection method named generalized fractal multi-scale wavelet analysis technique, which can focus the characteristics of the decaying ship wake. This method is composed of five steps, which are multi-scale decomposition, detail image fusion, multi-scale power calculation, fractal analysis and generalized fractal analysis. The experiment results show that the generalized fractal multi-scale wavelet characteristics can detect the decaying ship wake well and at the same time reflect the strength. When the strength decaying wake is 0.07 contrast to the background, there are still 40 sub-images in 49 can be detected of decaying ship wakes, which means the detection ratio is as high as 82%. The present investigations show that the generalized fractal multi-scale wavelet analysis technique is a useful method for decaying ship wake detection, which shows prominent prospect in feature use.
