Abstract
The flexibility that an intelligent hub adds to the planning, configuration, and management of a network of local area networks is discussed. We specifically address the capability to improve the performance of the overall system by flexing dynamically the boundaries of the constituent networks of a hub-based network according to traffic and quality of service demands. Guidelines for performing such hub-reconfiguration on demand are presented, and an extension for dynamic reconfiguration in multi-hub networks is also discussed
