Abstract :
This paper analyzed the causes of highway traffic accidents on foggy days, and concluded that the main cause is driver´s failure to keep enough safe driving distance. A safety transportation mathematical model was established, taking safe distance and running speed as the major parameter. The adoption of laser ranging device in measuring distance, combined with the sensor network control warning method on highway guardrail ensured vehicle anti-collision in foggy days. The vehicle detector sensor was equipped at guardrail intervals, which were connected with controller using conducting wires, forming a closed physical network. This dual detector constitutes a valid intelligent control system for traffic safe distance. The practice shows that it is an effective intelligent traffic safety distance control system which has good real-time performance and accuracy and sends a timely alarm in dangerous cases.
