  • Abstract
This paper presents a new technique of accurate fault location based on an improved joint diagonalization algorithm - Three Iterations Algorithm(TIA). It employs the fault generated high-frequency transients, which contain abundant fault information. The FFT algorithm and TIA are combined to analyze the selected mode component of the fault generated high frequency transients to accurately found the difference of the adjacent natural frequencies and realize the fault location. A typical 500kV system in MATLAB is used to verify the performance. The simulation results show that the proposed method can improve the accuracy of fault location, whereas require less sampling points and less computation.
