Abstract
In this paper, we present the architecture of an operating system kernel that provides efficient reconfiguration mechanism for itself and the applications. In the presented kernel, the reconfiguration process is realized either by the reconfiguration of the environment or by the reconfiguration of the contents of an object. The former is provided by the reflective management architecture of objects and the latter is provided by separating the service of the object and its virtual address space in which the objects can be instantiated. The separation of the object and the virtual address space enables efficient reconfiguration of the contents of an object, and the management of an object by meta object in the reflective architecture can provide the flexibility to control the execution environment of an object. Also, the reconfiguration examples are shown to demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach
