Abstract :
StormCast is an interdisciplinary project where distributed computing is applied to a certain domain. This has resulted in a set of scalable, fault-tolerant distributed applications monitoring real world events as weather and pollution parameters. Several of these prototypes have also been further developed in an industry context. Important design lessons learned are presented. We conclude by suggesting a general design for a certain class of distributed applications
