Analysis of the electromyogram to evaluate the effect of Pre Orthodontic Trainer during sucking on an empty straw

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the pre orthodontic trainer appliance efficiency in patients with orthodontic abnormalities. The evaluation was done during sucking on an empty straw. Ten patients (male and female), between 8 and 12 years of age, were examined. Electromyogram recordings were made at the initial stage of myofunctional therapy. The electrodes were placed on the right anterior temporal and right masseter muscles. For feature extraction purposes, we have performed discrete wavelet transform (DWT) of EMG signals and obtained power spectral density of detail 3 coefficient. The results showed that force of the anterior temporal and masseter muscle is reduced by preorthodontic trainer during the sucking activity.
