Abstract
In this paper a technique based on open and closed-loop frequency response is proposed to allocate FACTS devices. On those devices with more than one control input, the best one can be selected in order to get the major damping over specific electromechanical modes. The technique is exemplified on a 46-machine power system and a comparison is made with a method based on residues, obtaining similar results.
