Abstract :
Wind-tunnel experiments have been conducted on a blunt-slender body configuration at 0-60 deg angles of attack to examine the rolling oscillation. And the component effects on the motion of baseline model are also investigated including head strakes, strake wings and tail rudders. The results show that, with increasing of the angle of attack, the rolling oscillation of the baseline model can be divided into five categories: no-rock motion, limited-cycle oscillation, lateral departure, irregular motion, and auto-rotation. Three different models can be created by only removing head strakes, strake wings or tail rudders from the baseline model, namely the STR model, the HsTR model, the HsS model. Through the comparison between each motion of these three configurations and baseline motion respectively as the attack angle increases, it can be concluded that the STR model experiences the similar evolution of the wing rock with that of the baseline model, which indicated that the strake wings and tail rudders together are the main contribute components to the wing rock motion of the baseline model. The Reynolds number is 1.4×105 based on the chord afterbody diameter.
