Abstract
A general-purpose algorithm capable of generating analog and digital macromodels with only minimal reliance on the knowledge of specific properties of the circuit in question is presented. The word macromodel refers to an electrical network containing fewer devices and/or fewer modes than the circuit it represents. The proposed algorithm compares a circuit and its macromodel under dynamic conditions. However, no prior assumptions are made about the waveform involved. As a consequence, the macromodels thus generated can be used for general purpose circuit simulation, where accurate modeling under widely varying conditions is required
