Abstract :
The article deals in some details with the quantitative measure method (the ecological footprint method) for sustainable development established by M. Wackernagel and others since 1996. According to the data of the statistical yearbook of Hubei province from 1996 to 2004, this paper calculates and analyzes the ecological footprint of Hubei province in the ten years, also make the chart of the ten years ecological defect of Hubei province. The result reflects that Hubei is in the state of unsustainable development, and the human load has already stayed beyond the regional ecological capacity and the regional natural ecosystem is under great pressure of human activities. Because of efforting of the government and the people ecological deficit is at the stage of dropping, Hubei has sustainable development potentiality.
