Abstract :
In general, applications and services of spatial data are all directly related with their geographic locations. In order to more effectively organize and store spatial data to improve query and distribution services according to their spatial characteristics, Geographic Identification Protocol (GeoIP), which is a new storage and scheduling protocol based on global subdivision theory, is presented in this paper. As the basis of GeoIP protocol, geographic identification model (GeoID), which is combined with global subdivision grid and traditional mapping division and provides a globally unified geographic identification for each subdivision cell of the Earth surface, is briefly described. Taking deficiencies of spatial data organization and storage methods into consideration, the four-level protocol architecture and addressing mechanism of GeoIP protocol are designed in detail. Taking advantage of spatial characteristics and unified storage and scheduling mechanism, GeoIP protocol can quickly store and manage spatial data that belongs to the range of a certain subdivision cell, and is more suitable for data addressing and access in spatial data storage system.
