Abstract
This paper presents a new way to implement a stable low noise source at 94 GHz. It involves for the first time a dielectric resonator coupled to an InP Gunn diode, oscillating in the fundamental mode. A 15 dB noise reduction is obtained as a result of the dielectric resonator, at an output power level of 12 mW as compared to a conventionnal oscillator with the same diode. Temperature stabilisation can be obtained by proper choice of the dielectric material (Zr Sn Ti 04) ; 2,2 MHz/°C has been measured on a practical device. This fundamental mode operation leads to the possibility of higher frequency harmonic stabilised oscillators.
