Abstract :
Summary form only given. In order to ease communications between deaf and other people, several computer systems have been developed. We present a simple sign language software system. The purpose of our system is to perform (and teach) some basic mathematical operations for deaf and other people who are interested in learning sign language. For simplicity reasons, the system is implemented on a small set of Arabic numbers. The system may be extended to include other numbers and letters. In this system, we use a two-stage approach to draw each number. In the first stage, the base hand image is first displayed (drawn). This is done only once when the system starts. Fingers representing each number are then displayed on top of the base hand image in the second stage. This will decrease load and display burdens as well as time required to display images representing particular numbers, each time a number is required to be displayed. The system gains more importance and contribution when applied through the Internet, where image loading causes obvious delays.
