Abstract :
Asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) network is very complicated because of the logical concept for resources. In this paper, we focus on the network topology view and the routing information of permanent virtual connections (PVCs) for an ATM network management system (NMS) because the operator cannot understand them easily. To provide the operator with a simplified and easily understandable view of these, we propose a multi-layer view that shows the physical and logical topologies in one topology view and defines a sub-network information unit to depict the elements of the connection in an ATM network. By applying the user requirements in the design of the graphical user interface (GUI), we improve the usability of the GUI. The GUI in this paper provides the operator with a simplified network topology and the detail routing information of PVCs.
