Abstract
This tutorial paper reviews some fundamental principles in applying the Modal Analysis accompanied by the Spectral Domain Approach to the solution of a broad class of three dimensional uniaxial discontinuity problems. It is shown that this combination offers efficient computation of coupling coefficients between eigenmodes at a discontinuity. A case study of a finline complex discontinuity is presented for which it was found that the computed values of reflection and transmission coefficients were in a good agreement with the measured ones.
