Abstract :
The architecture and the basic design criteria of a space-based surveillance system using primary and secondary radars from a low elevation orbit are described. It is felt that the main system problems, i.e. prime power, data rate, accuracy/resolution and availability, can be solved by fully exploiting the capabilities of distributed, adaptive phased arrays, compatibly with today´s technology.
