Abstract
A novel propulsion system scheme using a soft-switched high frequency AC-AC converter for an electric vehicle is proposed in this paper. The system consists of three parts: high frequency inverter, high frequency transformer and soft-switched high frequency AC-AC converter. The DC voltage of battery firstly is inverted into 20 kHz high frequency AC voltage, which is boosted and isolated by transformer, and then the output voltage of the transformer is served as voltage source to feed the AC-AC converter for driving the motor. Owing to using zero voltage switching technique, the propulsion system has advantages of high efficiency, high energy density, small volume and light weight
