Abstract
This study deals with the direct use of solar cell arrays to supply DC motors driving mechanical loads, without sophisticated interfacing circuitry. The motor´s voltage-current curves depend on the motor type and on the load´s torque speed characteristic. A direct procedure is applied for selecting the motor type and its magnetic parameters yielding optimal matching. The matching problem is reduced from the analysis in the voltage-current plane to the mapping of the motor´s ideal magnetic characteristic on a new plane relating the motor flux and its armature current
