  • Abstract
The physical layer of Wireless LAN (IEEE 802.11) supports multiple data rates and if instead of using single data rate, multiple data rates would be used then the data transmission efficiency is increased. The Rate Adaptation (RA) is such a technique adapted in Wireless LAN-802.11 to use multiple rates based on the dynamic channel condition. In this project, a new rate adaptation scheme is implemented to enhance the data transmission rate by reducing the drop of packets. To reduce the drop of frames the RTS/CTS exchange is used. By using RTS/CTS the maximum speed can be reached beyond which performance will be reduced. So as to increase the transmission rate further traffic pattern can be reduced by reducing the number of connection. Main advantages of this algorithm are its simple implementation and the good performance it attains in presence of collisions. The whole implementation is done in network simulator NS-2.34.
